Thirty years after the movie thriller ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ hit the silver screen “sQuba†is the first car that can actually ‘fly’ under water.
“Dive it again, James!†If the situation gets too hot for the secret agent he’ll go underground - or under water. So demonstrated impressively by Roger Moore in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me†in 1977 when he dove below the waves in a sleek vehicle that moments before seemed to be an ordinary car. The only problem: The scene never really took place; it was an animation.
With the “sQuba,†the world’s first real submersible car, the movie fake now becomes reality for visitors of the Geneva Motor Show (March 6th - 16th, 2008). Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht is known for his extraordinary automotive creations. The acknowledged James Bond enthusiast and Swiss automobile visionary kept revisiting this scene in his mind over and over: “For three decades I have tried to imagine how it might be possible to build a car that can fly under water. Now we have made this dream come true.†And it is this submerged stabile flight at a depth of 10 meters that sets the “sQuba†apart from military vehicles. While the latter can go under water, they are limited to driving slowly over the submerged ground. Rinderknecht: “It is undoubtedly not an easy task to make a car watertight and pressure resistant enough to be maneuverable under water. 4) Sustainability - Sure, hybrid cars are fairly new, so their immediate impact on the environment cannot be foreseen in the short term. However, over the course of time, the next generations will definitely be thankful for having a clean, pollution free world, thanks in part to hybrid vehicles.

Tesla would fool with some tuners and zero in on the right frequency and 240 volts would zap the car through the air system! . The car engine was quiet as a mouse. He had his vehicle hidden in a barn near Niagra Falls. Somehow he was sending the power into the engine from the local power plant. He said this power could be made accessible for everyone. J.P.Morgan, globalist banker and one of the original criminals behind the Federal Reserve's quiet takeover of America in 1913, did not like the idea. The bastard stopped funding and Tesla's Wardencliffe Tower died without a funeral. We were denied FREE power. So instead we have to purchase gasoline and inhale polluted air!

Up to that date he had lived under tight conditions in Yugoslavia, which was also where Tesla was born. During the summer of 1931, Tesla took his nephew to Buffalo to show him and have him test a new automobile. Tesla had brought it into existence using his own finances. The car was a Pierce Arrow, comparative to today, a Mercedes. The engine had been taken outwithout touching the clutch, gearbox or transmission. The gasoline engine had been replaced with a circular, self contained electric motor with a cooling fan in front. There was also an energy converter which was located in front of the dash board. A large heavy antenna protruded from the converting device. Furthermore, two thick rods emanated from the converter housing. "Now we have power." The motor achieved a maximum of 1800rpm. Tesla noted it was rather hot when operating, and therefore a cooling fan was required. As if this was not enough there was sufficientpower in the converter tolight up an entire house while operating the automobile's engine. Testing went on for about a week, achieving a top speed of ninety mph effortlessly. Its test results were at least comparable to those of any vehicle using fossil fuel. At a stop sign, a pedestrian made notice that there were no exhaust gasses coming from the exhaust pipe. Petar answered "It's Ok, there is no motor either." The automobile kept on a farm, maybe twenty miles outside of Buffalo, in the area of Niagara Falls. Due partially to the economic crisis at the time, Pierce Arrow had to stop production. So that is the story of how we came to be in the sad state of affairs we are in or at least you know that it was possible to prevent it as far back as 1930. What is past is past and we now have options which we did not have even five years ago. It’s not because that this car looks the part; it certainly plays it as well. And what makes it really sweet is the honey-spot just under the rear windscreen: a diesel engine.
The Audi R8 is not only the best-looking car in its category, but it is also one of the fastest, although it’s 6.0-liter V12 engine does mean that it is one of the quickest fuel-burners as well. However, this means that the car is one of the most powerful as well.
This soon-to-be best car lease deal was first introduced earlier in 2008 at the Detroit Motor show, a brilliant red two-seater sports vehicle packed with 500 horsepower. The original R8 was donned in silver but after much internal debate, according to Audi, red was the chosen color to highlight the diesel feature of the car. A chrome finish for air intake and aerodynamic aid tops off this car, inspired by the Audi Le Mans diesel endurance racers.
The TDI has a new engine cover, wider air intakes, a new rear wing and more aero-dynamic parts to match its speed. Another intake is mounted on the roof as well as blade-like spoilers inside the front intakes. One might liken the design to the 1991 Audi Avus concept car. Inside, the cabin is smaller and there is no space for storing luggage due to the larger engine. In fact, the engine is so large the rear view mirror is virtually useless. A reverse camera has been fitted to the adjustable wing in the rear to compensate for this.
The car can hit 0-62 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 200 miles per hour, much faster than the V8 gas version from Audi. There is also a new wheel-mounted start button that allows the priming of the ignition on an initial press. The second press starts the V12. The engine is not as loud as many might expect. This best car lease deal lets out a metallic buzz more than a soaring scream as the rev increases. Response, however, is not an issue.
The Audi R8 V12 TDI will go on sale perhaps in 2010 and there is the very real chance that it will be limited in stock. However, this is the world’s first diesel-powered super car and there will definitely be no shortage when it comes to getting behind the wheel and fulfilling one’s need for speed.

TV Programme: Kingdom Car: Alvis TE21
Fruity old thespian Stephen Fry plays an East of England lawyer in this gentle comedy drama and he scoots around Norfolk in a fabulous Alvis TE21 drophead - sparking an interest in classic cars from a whole new generation.
Alvis is a weird marque. In the best part of 50 years from 1920 onwards, the Coventry-based firm produced cars that were noted for top quality, great handling and a nifty, sporty character. The TE21 model arrived at the end of 1963 - and with a stiff suspension it could shift a bit.
The TE21 was pretty heavy yet managed a very respectable top speed of over 120mph and was available with automatic transmission or a five-speed manual gearbox. It's a very, very stylish classic - and a restored version could easily set you back ?100,000.

TV Programme: The Sweeney Car: Mk1 Ford Consul GT
When ITV in the UK screened The Sweeney for the first time, the programme marked a whole new concept in cop shows. Previously fed a diet of boring old 'bobbies' like Z-cars and Dixon of Dock Green, The Sweeney had fast cars, swearing, sex scenes, drinking and extreme violence.
And it made household names of main characters Reagan and Carter. In series 1 and 2 the mainstay of the CID crew was a copper brown Mk1 Ford Consul GT, reg NHK 295M - although in later series, Ford Granadas were the norm. The Consul had front bucket seats as standard, a central floor-mounted remote control gear shift and the speedometer, fuel and temperature gauges all had black non- reflecting dials.
The Consul 'L pack offered special seats, loop pile carpet colour keyed to the interior, vanity mirror, heated rear screen, clock and trip mileage recorder (not that the Sweeney ever bothered with anything within the law!). No surprises then, that they went for the GT pack option, which included the larger 3.0 V6 engine - capable of 0-60mph in 9 seconds.

TV Programme: Inspector Morse Car: 1960 Mk II Jaguar
In Colin Dexter's novels, grouchy copper Inspector Morse's car was a classic Lancia, but ITV used a Jaguar MK II 2.4 from the start of the television series. In fact, the Carmen red Jag became so iconic that new editions of the earlier novels have been changed so that Morse's car is a Jaguar! The Jaguar Mark II 'a compact four-door saloon' was introduced in October 1959, at a price of just ?1,534.00 and was made until 1967. Morse's Jaguar is a 2.4 litre model with a twin overhead-cam 6-cylinder 2,483-cc engine giving 120 bhp. It's a bit slow for TV coppers, only capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 17.3 seconds, with a maximum speed of 96.3 mph, but Morse didn't exactly need to burn around the university city of Oxford. Spy 007's love of fast cars is evident all the way through the original Ian Fleming novels and when they eventually made the silver screen, car lovers everywhere drooled over his gorgeous DB5.
The 1963 DB5 is famous for being the first and most recognised Bond car, featuring notably in: Goldfinger, Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Casino Royale, while it also made background appearances in The World Is Not Enough and Diamonds Are Forever. The DB5's engine had been enlarged from the previous DB4's 3.7L to 4.0L, while the addition of a five-speed transmission and three SU carburetors enabled the car to pull 282hp and propel it to 141 mph (238 km/h). Standard equipment on the DB5 included reclining seats, pile carpets, electric windows and a fire extinguisher. All models had 4 seats and 2 doors. The UK recommended list price of the sports saloon (coupe) in December 1963 was ?4,248 including Purchase Tax, the convertible was ?4,562.

TV Programme: Dukes of Hazzard Car: 1969 Dodge Charger
Testosterone-filled teenage boys remember a couple things about the Dukes of Hazzard - Catherine Bach's never-ending legs (and pert bum in spray-on denim shorts) and the General Lee car.
The General Lee was a 1969 Dodge Charger with a 426 Hemi in every season of the hit programme (except season two, where it had a 440 Magnum engine). It was also said to be the Road/Track model.
Bright orange with a Confederate battle flag painted on the roof, and the words 'General Lee' and number '01' on each door, the car's name refers to the American Civil War Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
The show also used 1968 Chargers since the start (which shared mostly the same sheet metal) by changing the grill and tail lights to the 1969 model year style, and smoothing over the round '68 side marker lights, which were rectangular on the '69 model year.

TV Programme: Starsky and Hutch Car: Ford Torino
We loved the 1970's. Big hair, disco music, chunky sweaters - and all of this in just one TV series. Los Angeles cops Starsky and Hutch fought villains in a two-door Ford Torino, which was red with a large white vector stripe.
It was nicknamed the Striped Tomato by Hutch but the term didn't come from the series' writers - it came from a real-life comment that actor Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky) made. The standard Torino was pretty dull, so producers jazzed it up with a large white vector stripe, 5-slot alloys and larger rear tires. Air shocks were added to give the car an aggressive rake and it worked - especially for Ford, who built 1,000 replicas of the "Starsky and Hutch" car in the spring of 1976.
The 'Starsky and Hutch' replica was available with all Torino engines, and the limited production package was essentially a special paint option with the deluxe bumper group and dual colour-keyed sport mirrors as mandatory options. Seat colours were restricted to white or black and were available with all cloths and seating options.

TV Programme: Knight Rider Car: 1982 Pontiac Trans Am Forget Baywatch - bubble haired David 'The Hof' Hasselhoff first shot to fame in Knight Rider - a bonkers TV series that ran from 1982 to 1986 which featured KITT, a talking car equipped with mind-blowing gadgetry. Unsurprisingly, given its low-budget cast, KITT became the star of the show, but then it was a gleaming black 1982 Pontiac Trans Am. The car oozed sex appeal and sparked a massive interest in American Classics, which exists still to this day. By the way, KITT stands for 'Knight Industries Two Thousand' an eponymous doff of the cap to its weird technology-cum-crime fighting creators.

TV programme: The A-team Car: The GMC van
Da-da-da, dada, da. Da, dada, da, da, dadada, da. It's hard to believe any TV programmes, especially from Hollywood, could make vans sexy - but the A-team did it in bucket loads.
The black and metallic grey GMC van used by the A-Team - a crackpot collection of crime-fighting misfits - had a characteristic red stripe, black and red wheels, rooftop spoiler, and became an instant icon.
The van is a 1983 G-series which was heavily customised by the Universal Studios prop department. The engine is a 350 cid with minor modifications (mainly the carb and exhaust system), while the wheels are turbine style 15" painted black with red accents.
Other modifications include - quad headlight conversion, full front brushbar, fog/driving lights, exterior sun visor, quad square exhaust tips (each side in front of rear wheels), and custom made rear wing. Interior was custom-white bucket seats, shag carpet, and custom gun case in the back.
It also had beefy air shocks in the rear to improve handling, which was poor and underpowered. In fact, scenes where it burns out were done by spraying bleach in front of and onto the rear tyres which creates billowing grey smoke.

TV Programme: Back To The Future (Film) Car: De Lorean DMC-12
Look, make no bones about it, apart from James Bond's DB5 this is THE iconic TV and film car. It grabbed attention in real life and it grabbed attention on-screen.
The De Lorean DMC-12 became a time machine for Back To The Future, but was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and manufactured for real in 1981 by the De Lorean Motor Company, in Northern Ireland. The 2-door coupe had a 2.8 L (2849 cc), V6 engine and was available in 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmissions.
It was the only model ever produced by the company and featured gull-wing doors with a fiberglass 'underbody', to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels are fixed.
The first prototype appeared in March 1976, and production officially began in 1981 (with the first DMC-12 rolling off the production line on January 21st) at the DMC factory in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. During its production, several aspects of the car were changed, such as the bonnet style, wheels and interior.
About nine thousand DMC-12s were made before production stopped in late 1982.

TV programme: Herbie 'The Love Bug' Car: 1963 Volkswagen Beetle ragtop sedan.
Peace and love, man. With the amount of 'acid' dropped in the hippified atmosphere of the late 60s, we weren't all that surprised when a film starring a humanised VW beetle appeared.
Herbie The Love Bug was a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle deluxe ragtop sedan painted in Volkswagen L87 pearl white. The interior would normally be a matching white but Herbie's interior was painted a special non-reflective grey, so the camera and studio lights would not reflect.
In this original 1968 film, Herbie's stripes differ from those in later movies - the stripes do not cover the valances or louvers of the car and the blue is a lighter shade. Also, Herbie features color-keyed running boards, while in later films the running boards are standard black.

TV Programme: Kingdom Car: Alvis TE21
Fruity old thespian Stephen Fry plays an East of England lawyer in this gentle comedy drama and he scoots around Norfolk in a fabulous Alvis TE21 drophead - sparking an interest in classic cars from a whole new generation.
Alvis is a weird marque. In the best part of 50 years from 1920 onwards, the Coventry-based firm produced cars that were noted for top quality, great handling and a nifty, sporty character. The TE21 model arrived at the end of 1963 - and with a stiff suspension it could shift a bit.
The TE21 was pretty heavy yet managed a very respectable top speed of over 120mph and was available with automatic transmission or a five-speed manual gearbox. It's a very, very stylish classic - and a restored version could easily set you back ?100,000.

TV Programme: The Sweeney Car: Mk1 Ford Consul GT
When ITV in the UK screened The Sweeney for the first time, the programme marked a whole new concept in cop shows. Previously fed a diet of boring old 'bobbies' like Z-cars and Dixon of Dock Green, The Sweeney had fast cars, swearing, sex scenes, drinking and extreme violence.
And it made household names of main characters Reagan and Carter. In series 1 and 2 the mainstay of the CID crew was a copper brown Mk1 Ford Consul GT, reg NHK 295M - although in later series, Ford Granadas were the norm. The Consul had front bucket seats as standard, a central floor-mounted remote control gear shift and the speedometer, fuel and temperature gauges all had black non- reflecting dials.
The Consul 'L pack offered special seats, loop pile carpet colour keyed to the interior, vanity mirror, heated rear screen, clock and trip mileage recorder (not that the Sweeney ever bothered with anything within the law!). No surprises then, that they went for the GT pack option, which included the larger 3.0 V6 engine - capable of 0-60mph in 9 seconds.

TV Programme: Inspector Morse Car: 1960 Mk II Jaguar
In Colin Dexter's novels, grouchy copper Inspector Morse's car was a classic Lancia, but ITV used a Jaguar MK II 2.4 from the start of the television series. In fact, the Carmen red Jag became so iconic that new editions of the earlier novels have been changed so that Morse's car is a Jaguar! The Jaguar Mark II 'a compact four-door saloon' was introduced in October 1959, at a price of just ?1,534.00 and was made until 1967. Morse's Jaguar is a 2.4 litre model with a twin overhead-cam 6-cylinder 2,483-cc engine giving 120 bhp. It's a bit slow for TV coppers, only capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 17.3 seconds, with a maximum speed of 96.3 mph, but Morse didn't exactly need to burn around the university city of Oxford. Some months back, the automotive industry has been bombarded with various pieces of news as per the fate of the Ford Motor Company's Jaguar and Land Rover brands. These two are actually luxury brands that are part of Ford's Premium Automotive Group (PAG).What has been the seed as per the rumors regarding the fate of the two brands, it actually started with how the brands' vehicles are doing in the market. For quite some time, Jaguar and Land Rover have been performing poorly in the market so much so that the Ford Motor Company has not been gaining much profit from the two brands. It is also not a secret that Ford has been under much financial stress lately because of declining profit and one of their solutions so as to help better their financial situation was to sell their two luxury brands.When Jaguar and Land Rover was put up for sale, there were quite a number of parties and individuals who were interested in owning the two brands. However, Ford wanted to make sure that they were getting the best deal on the two brands. And what the Dearborn-based car maker did was to set up a system where interested purchasers could put in their bids for the luxury brands. This process took quite some time and experts were looking at the situation as a tactic from Ford so that they could properly study where they would be getting the best deal for Jaguar and Land Rover.It seems like the end of the bidding for Jaguar and Land Rover has finally come to an end for a couple of days back, a newsletter from the American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) carried news that the Ford Motor Company has finally chosen the right party who would purchase the two brands from them. Tata Motors from India would be the new owner of the vehicle and that the purchase of the brands is set to be announced this March 5th of 6th.The purchase has already been finalized and Tata has already been talking with trade union leaders since last week. The national officer for one of the largest unions in the UK auto industry, Roger Maddison, has announced, "Everything seems fine as far as we are concerned; it's just the lawyers working on it now."One of the major outcomes of these talks include the fact that Tata would still be sourcing the brands' engines, NGK laser platinum spark plugs, stampings, and other auto systems from Ford.

Some months back, the automotive industry has been bombarded with various pieces of news as per the fate of the Ford Motor Company's Jaguar and Land Rover brands. This process took quite some time and experts were looking at the situation as a tactic from Ford so that they could properly study where they would be getting the best deal for Jaguar and Land Rover.It seems like the end of the bidding for Jaguar and Land Rover has finally come to an end for a couple of days back, a newsletter from the American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) carried news that the Ford Motor Company has finally chosen the right party who would purchase the two brands from them. Tata Motors from India would be the new owner of the vehicle and that the purchase of the brands is set to be announced this March 5th of 6th.The purchase has already been finalized and Tata has already been talking with trade union leaders since last week. The national officer for one of the largest unions in the UK auto industry, Roger Maddison, has announced, "Everything seems fine as far as we are concerned; it's just the lawyers working on it now."One of the major outcomes of these talks include the fact that Tata would still be sourcing the brands' engines, NGK laser platinum spark plugs, stampings, and other auto systems from Ford.

Mazda has given its BT-50 pickup truck a minor change and announced that the new model will help it achieve a total pickup truck sales of 12,700 in 2008, up from 11,000 units in 2007.Produced at the AutoAlliance Thailand (AAT) plant in Rayong, the BT-50 is also exported to 130 global markets from Thailand. The facelifted BT-50 maintains its sporty appeal, with the new design adding a more dynamic and robust look.There is a new front pentagonal grille, along with new front bumpers, multi-reflector headlights and turning lights. Meanwhile, the rear lights are larger and come with chrome trim. The side profile is highlighted by a new wheel fender kit, as well as 15-inch or 16-inch 5-spoke wheels. There are 11 colours to choose from as well.Mazda Sales Thailand Co Ltd marketing director Sureethip La-ongthong says that the company will focus on two-wheel-drive pickup models this year. As much as 97 per cent of Mazda pickup truck sales are made up of two-wheel-drive models, while the remaining 3 per cent are four-wheel-drive models for fleet customers."Previously the ratio between two- and four-wheel-drive models was 85/15, but presently the popularity of thr four-wheel-drive models have grown," she daid.Sureethip said the company will emphasize on the 4x2 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter models, with prices starting at Bt489,000 foi the standard cab and Bt541,000 for the Freestyle cab. American Honda Motor Co. Inc. now releases the details, features, and the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of the 2008 model year Sedan and Coupe variants of the Honda Accord. Both model variants are available with several trim level options with exclusive features for each trim level. The 2008 Honda Accord Sedan will roll out in Honda dealers all over the U.S. starting this September 12, while the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe will go on sale in September 20th. In a recent press release, Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. commented: "The 2008 Honda Accord adds popular features and enhancements while maintaining competitive, value-oriented pricing on every model. Wonder where you can find the cars of the future? They are at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show. At this year's motor show, automakers embraced the wacky, weird and gorgeous futuristic cars. Nissan Motor Co. introduced the egg-shaped Pivo 2, which can turn its wheels sideways to slot into a parking space. Inside the car is a "robotic agent" that recognizes that recognizes the driver's face, senses his mood and speak to him. Honda Motor Co. flaunted the Puyo which features a gel-filled, squashable body covering as well as ludicrously small wheels at each corner. The "silky feel" interior is similarly flexible, with controls increasing through the stretching membrane when the fuel-cell Puyo starts up.Toyota Motor Corp., not wanting to be upstaged, showcased the RiN that is said to encourage drivers to "to re-evaluate themselves and... to turn their attention to society and nature, producing a healthy rhythm for both mind and body".One of the stunners at the motor show was the Audi Metro Project quattro. So it is a hybrid, and CO2 emissions are calculated at an average 112g/km by the EC official test method.The crush around the Audi was almost frightening; the crush around the Nissan GT-R was even greater, but then this is the latest incarnation of Japan's most cult-sustaining supercar, said John Simister of The Independent. This version has a 480bhp, twin-turbo, 3.8-litre V6 and is designed to be able to maintain more than 180mph, whatever the outside temperature may be.Mitsubishi Motor Corp. presented an electric coup? version of the i-car dubbed as the MiEV and Concept ZT, a ruggedly handsome wagon which is destined for production as a new Sigma. It flaunts a "clean" diesel engine, showing that the previously diesel-hating Japanese car market is slowly recognizing the diesel engine's advantages, provided it does not pollute.Mazda Motor Corp.'s Taiki joined the three other concept cars in the company's Nagare - it means "embodiment of movement" series. More than any of the others, this latest interpretation, with its rear wheels remote from the body in separate pods, looks as if its body was moulded by the passage of wind or water, said Simister.
