Porsche To Start A New Auto Empire
by Anthony Fontanelle
Europe will see the rise of a new automobile empire. The much-anticipated conglomeration will be composed of Porsche, Volkswagen, and Scania.
Porsche Automobil Holding SE was given the green light by its board Monday to acquire majority stake in Volkswagen AG which owns Audi, Skoda, Seat, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti brands. VW, meanwhile, said it will take a controlling interest in Scania, a Swedish truckmaker. This also means Porsche is in a position to absorb Scania with MAN AG, a German truckmaker which Volkswagen holds 29.9 percent, reported the Associated Press.
VW Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn said Volkswagen will focus on synergies with Scania AB, mainly in purchasing raw materials such as steel as well as research and development and electronic components.
Analysts in the industry said the deals are aimed at accumulating more wealth. The deals also strengthen the control held by the grandson of Porsche founder - Ferdinand Piech. He is the chairman of Volkswagen and MAN supervisory boards.
The maker of Porsche parts has been gradually increasing its stake in Volkswagen for more than a year and won a significant victory in 2007 when the European Union's highest court promulgated a decision that the German government had to remove a cap on voting rights at VW.
"Volkswagen has announced that they're taking a majority share of Scania. Next they could upgrade their stake in MAN to a majority stake, merge the two companies into a Volkswagen Commercial AG and sell that to Porsche SE. Then they could hand back to Porsche ... or to their stock owners, a special dividend from the revenues of that sale," said Christoph Stuermer, an auto analyst with Global Insight.
In a statement, Porsche said the reviews by the regulatory authorities are expected to take several months. And when requisite clearances are finally acquired, Porsche can take majority stakes in Volkswagen. The statement added that Porsche does not intend to merge the two companies.
"Our aim is to create one of the strongest and most innovative automobile alliances in the world, which is able to measure up to the increased international competition," said Porsche Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking.
Were a tie-up happen, VW and Scania would effortlessly upstage giant rivals such as Volvo AB and Daimler AG, Europe’s largest truckmaker.
"It shows the trust that the people in Porsche AG have in Volkswagen," Winterkorn noted at the Geneva Motor Show. "It means a lot of interesting things in the future.”

Best Car Lease Deal: The Audi R8 V12 TDI : Motor show, Auto show. Pretty car pretty girl

Best Car Lease Deal: The Audi R8 V12 TDI
by Danie lLamb
Now that everybody has their little version of the best car lease deal for the year 2008, enter Audi with one of the sexiest cars on the planet! It’s not because that this car looks the part; it certainly plays it as well. And what makes it really sweet is the honey-spot just under the rear windscreen: a diesel engine.
The Audi R8 is not only the best-looking car in its category, but it is also one of the fastest, although it’s 6.0-liter V12 engine does mean that it is one of the quickest fuel-burners as well. However, this means that the car is one of the most powerful as well.
This soon-to-be best car lease deal was first introduced earlier in 2008 at the Detroit Motor show, a brilliant red two-seater sports vehicle packed with 500 horsepower. The original R8 was donned in silver but after much internal debate, according to Audi, red was the chosen color to highlight the diesel feature of the car. A chrome finish for air intake and aerodynamic aid tops off this car, inspired by the Audi Le Mans diesel endurance racers.
The TDI has a new engine cover, wider air intakes, a new rear wing and more aero-dynamic parts to match its speed. Another intake is mounted on the roof as well as blade-like spoilers inside the front intakes. One might liken the design to the 1991 Audi Avus concept car. Inside, the cabin is smaller and there is no space for storing luggage due to the larger engine. In fact, the engine is so large the rear view mirror is virtually useless. A reverse camera has been fitted to the adjustable wing in the rear to compensate for this.
The car can hit 0-62 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 200 miles per hour, much faster than the V8 gas version from Audi. There is also a new wheel-mounted start button that allows the priming of the ignition on an initial press. The second press starts the V12. The engine is not as loud as many might expect. This best car lease deal lets out a metallic buzz more than a soaring scream as the rev increases. Response, however, is not an issue.
The Audi R8 V12 TDI will go on sale perhaps in 2010 and there is the very real chance that it will be limited in stock. However, this is the world’s first diesel-powered super car and there will definitely be no shortage when it comes to getting behind the wheel and fulfilling one’s need for speed.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Luxury Sports Car Review : Auto show, Motor show, Pretty girl

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Luxury Sports Car Review
by CJ Carter
As with all Aston Martin super cars the Aston Martin V8 Vantage is hand built. The smallest incarnation of modern Aston Martins, the Vantage is made to compete in the same class as Porsche 911 Turbo. The V8 Vantage was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005 as a full production car.
Unlike the DBS, DB9, or even the Vanquish, the V8 Vantage is a true two-seater. The two door coupe has a body that is created from a bonded aluminum structure. Although much smaller then other incarnations of Aston Martin the 172 inch long Vantage has a hatchback style tailgate which gives it a relatively large trunk space.
The Aston Martin Vantage is powered by a 4.3 liter V8 which cranks out 380 hp at 7000 rpm. At 5000 rpm the Vantage pours out over 300 lbs of torque. The engine of the Vantage is front mid mounted. The transaxle is rear-mounted. Surprisingly Aston Martin worked out the weight distribution to a near perfect 49/51 (front/rear). The V8 Vantage rockets from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The Vantage reaches a top speed of 175 mph. But one shouldn't worry. The Vantage is fitted with Brembo brakes in order to bring this monster to a screeching halt.
The V8 Vantage sells in the US at a retail price of $110,000. At least that's what the manufacturer recommends. You will find most Vantages prices between $125,000 and $140,000. The Vantage originally was equipped with only a manual transmission. Later incarnations of the car has a floppy paddle gearbox as an option. They come loaded with nearly every option as a standard.
